Langley's Choral Department has a long and rich history. It has consistently won high awards at state, regional, and national competitions. Traditionally, the Choral Department performs five formal concerts annually, a Renaissance Feaste during the December holiday season, and a major national performance tour competition every year.
Parental support and assistance is an integral part of the success of our Choral Program. The LHS Choral Guild is an active group of parents who work through a variety of committees to support the activities of our choirs.
Accomplishments of the Guild include
- Spearheading a fundraising campaign to purchase our beautiful Steinway Baby Grand piano
- Improving communication within the Choral Department and with the community by launching our website
- Publishing our Choral Department Directory
- Painting and redecorating the Choir Room
- Funding our music storage library and sound system.
- Helping behind the scenes with concerts and the annual Madrigal Feaste
- Helping to organize and chaperone the Choral Department's annual Spring Trip, including in 2008 the choirs' first international performance tour – to Italy!
This year promises to be yet another active one for the Guild and there are many ways to become involved:
- Join a committee: Our committees are as varied as they are numerous.
- Volunteer as-needed: For parents looking to lend support on an ad-hoc basis, there are opportunities to help on individual events and activities. These opportunities are posted on the website and communicated to the choral community via "This Week in Choir."
- Lend financial support: Always a welcome means of helping our choirs! You can choose to support Choral Guild fundraisers; purchase an LHS Choral Guild Membership; become a Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum Choral Guild Contributor; and/or donate to the LHS Fine and Performing Arts Society in support of "Chorus."
Choral Guild meetings are held once a month and are a wonderful way to learn about the behind-the-scenes activities of the Choral Department. All interested individuals (parents and students) are welcome to attend. Check the Monthly Calendar for our 2009-10 meetings.
Whether you join a committee, volunteer as you are able, and/or contribute financially to our program, you will be helping to maintain a strong choral department tradition at Langley High School and helping to provide our students the opportunity to experience the beauty and excitement of music.
