Each year, the McLean Community Center recognizes the hard work and talent of young performing and visual artists through the James C. Macdonald Arts Scholarship Competition. Following a preliminary audition and a final round of competition, prizes (1st- $1200, 2nd- $800, and 3rd- $400) are awarded in each of five categories: Dance, Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, Theatre and Visual Arts. High school students who reside or attend school in the McLean tax district (Small District 1A-Dranesville) are eligible to apply. Last year, seven of the twelve finalists were from Langley High School!

* A nonrefundable $15 fee is required for each application form submitted.
* Early Bird Special- Pay only $5 (nonrefundable) if your application is received before Feb. 1.

Once again the Alexandria Lions Club is pleased to sponsor the James Bland Memorial Music Scholarship Competition for 2013. The event will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2013 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the Lyceum in Alexandria.
The competition is open to all students who live in or attend schools in Northern Virginia. Winning students will advance through several levels of competition until they reach the Virginia State Competition which will be held in Bristol, Virginia on May 31, 2013. There are cash awards for the winners at each level with a range of $1000-$2500 at the state level.
The District (Northern VA) contest will be on April 21st at 1:00 pm at the Lyceum. Qualified instrumental students are requested to mail in a registration form before the deadline of Feb. 8, 2013.
